OCT 15: EVENT SUMMARY: Young Musicians Foundation Golden Anniversary Gala

by Don Rose

The YOUNG MUSICIANS FOUNDATION has, year after year, churned out the classical stars of tomorrow. Five decades after it all began, it was time to celebrate. Guests at the YMF gala enjoyed cocktails, a Silent Auction, dinner, Prize Drawing and Concert. Honorees included John Williams, Merv Griffin and Carl Reiner.

For nearly half a century, the proceeds from the YMF's annual gala have been used to fund the Foundation’s extensive programs for young artists. During its history, YMF has nurtured a number of international stars including Michael Tillson Thomas, Andre Previn and Mona Golabek. The music world looks to the YMF as a training ground for the next generation of composers, conductors, performers, and arts management.

OCT 15: EVENT REVIEW: Big Brothers Big Sisters Masquerade Ball

by Don Rose

(LOS ANGELES, CA: Oct. 15, 2004) Big Brothers Big Sisters of L.A. threw a Masquerade Ball tonight that truly was a ball. The Petersen Automotive Museum was the setting for this unique, exotic, and enjoyable fundraising event. The enchanted evening featured masquerade costume attire (many creative masks, wigs and costumes could be seen, my fave being a woman with Bride-Of-Frankenstein hair colored red and yellow), high roller casino (Craps, Black Jack, Roulette), fortune tellers, a hip DJ, dancing, extravagant eats (mostly healthy too, a nice touch), luscious libations, and many wonderful prizes (casino winnings turned into raffle tickets that could win you prizes including DVDs, DVD box sets, a blimp ride, a celeb-autographed skateboard, signed TV scripts, and more).

For more information on how you can sponsor or attend the 2005 gala, contact Monica Lee at (323) 904-4400. To learn more about the organization, please visit http://www.bigbrothersbigsisterslaie.org .
