JUN 27-28: DVD MAGIC 8 CONFERENCE, CENTURY CITY, L.A.

DVD MAGIC 8, Century Plaza Hotel, June27-28; Home Media Retailing presents their annual DVD conference with a focus on home entertainment (HMR puts on a number of fine conferences during the year -- including one focused on Music DVDs, in the spring, and TV DVDs, coming up this fall.)

The Rose Review highly recommends this conference. Attendees include many professionals and executives from the DVD industry and related fields. The presentations and panels are packed with useful info, often thought-provoking, and entertaining; there are many opportunities for networking, and HMR's award shows are always fun and well-produced.

As DVD hits its eighth birthday, the home entertainment industry finds itself at a critical juncture. The search for a next-generation, high-definition optical-disc format is in its final stages, with a scheduled launch just months away. And yet at this point there are still two rival formats, Blue-ray Disc and HD-DVD, each hoping to be the standard.

This quest for unity — and the serious ramifications to our business if a single standard is not attained — will be front and center at this year at the Fourth Annual Home Entertainment Summit. This year’s incarnation of the home entertainment industry’s premier annual event promises to again attract the top movers and shakers in the business, from the presidents of the Hollywood studios’ home entertainment divisions to key retailers, Wall Street analysts and members of the media.

They’ll all come for two days of information-packed programming, focused on our industry’s high-definition future.
